Tone up your face! #GOLDENUDE

12:29 AM

Toners - you may have only heard of them but never used them before. What are you missing out on anyways, you ask?

Well, we believe skin toners should not be among life’s great mysteries - so today, the Goldenude team will introduce to you the 101’s of skin toners!

If you’ve ever wondered what a toner is supposed to do and if you really need to use one, you’re not alone. There are lots of people out there who wonder the same thing. However, once you know what a great toner can do for your skin, you’ll be surprised at the remarkable benefits they provide.

The purpose of toners is to replenish and nourish skin after removing makeup and cleansing, a step that can significantly, and visibly, help your skin. Even if you use the most gentle cleanser, your skin still needs to be replenished with what the cleanser removes. This is where a brilliant toner can really shine.

For one, a toner can quickly and fundamentally provide skin with generous amounts of antioxidants, soothing agents, and vital hydrating ingredients. Besides that, a good toner enhances your skin’s surface, giving it what it needs to look fresher, smoother, and more hydrated. It also serves to remove those last traces of makeup you may have missed with your cleanser, because toners are effective at deep pore cleansing and making pores "appear" smaller.
Most toners are water-based liquids composed of specific active ingredients including plant extracts and essential oils, tailored to address the variety of skin types out there.

Oh, but don’t worry beauties, you don't always need to spend a fortune to have the healthy, glowing skin of your dream. So if you’re ever feeling creative, you can always DIY your own toners as well! But that’s a post for another day…

Shine on, Goldenuders!

11:26 AM

The sun's rays make us feel good, and in the short term, make us look good. But our love affair isn't a two-way street. Exposure to sun causes most of the wrinkles and age spots on our faces. Consider this: One woman at age 40 who has protected her skin from the sun actually has the skin of a 30-year-old!

We often associate a glowing complexion with good health, but skin color obtained from being in the sun – or in a tanning booth – actually accelerates the effects of aging and increases your risk for developing skin cancer.
Sun exposure causes most of the skin changes that we think of as a normal part of aging. Over time, the sun's ultraviolet (UV) light damages the fibers in the skin called elastin. When these fibers break down, the skin begins to sag, stretch, and lose its ability to go back into place after stretching. The skin also bruises and tears more easily -- taking longer to heal. So while sun damage to the skin may not be apparent when you're young, it will definitely show later in life.

How Does the Sun Change My Skin?

Exposure to the sun causes:
  • Pre-cancerous (actinic keratosis) and cancerous (basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma) skin lesions - due to decreases in the skin's immune function
  • Benign tumors
  • Fine and coarse wrinkles
  • Freckles
  • Discolored areas of the skin, called mottled pigmentation
  • Sallowness -- a yellow discoloration of the skin
  • Telangiectasias -- the dilation of small blood vessels under the skin
  • Elastosis -- the destruction of the elastic and collagen tissue (causing lines, wrinkles and sagging skin)

So submerge your skin in SPF and wave them cancer a goodbye before they even had a chance to come!

Shed your skin! #GOLDENUDE

10:20 AM

Happy Friday, Goldenuders

Let’s start out with a fun fact this morning: did you know that the human body sheds 30,000-40,000 dead cells each minute? How awesome is that!

While we can all agree shedding dead skin cells can help make our skin look good naturally, there are other benefits that you lose out on if you only rely on the body’s natural detox mechanism. Having a good exfoliating routine is the key to the smooth and glowing skin. Exfoliating, after all, is the process of removing the dead skin cells from the body, so your newer, fresher skin cells are left at the top. Your skin will feel much smoother and look much more radiant that it did before. You’ll also find that it can clear the pores of all the dirt and oils much easier, so you’re left with cleaner skin ready for your day or night ahead.

It’s not just about getting smooth skin, though. A face scrub is essential for three other reasons. Firstly, it deeply cleanses the skin, dislodging buildup in the pores and helping to break up whiteheads. It also smooths and refines the skin’s texture, giving it a soft, supple look. And lastly, it enhances blood flow to the face, giving the appearance of a fresh glow.

With all that in mind, does that mean we should exfoliate our face every morning of every day? Nuh-uh, Goldenuders, this depends on the method of exfoliating and your skin type.
When you are using an exfoliator, chances are you won’t need to use it more than once a week. A little goes a long way, with any type of exfoliate. Not only will this work out better for your skin, but we’re sure it’s also better for your bank balance ;)
So remember beauties, your mornings will be much brighter and your skin significantly smoother if you just incorporate exfoliators into your morning routine!
Flush and shine!

5 Foods To Eat For Better Skin #GOLDENUDE

9:30 AM

We often hear the phrase ‘You are what you eat’.  Nutrition is important factor for your health - An unhealthy diet can not only damage your metabolism and cause weight gain, but also affect organs such as your heart, liver, and surely, your skin. Certain foods have ‘magical’ ingredients that will help keep your skin feel supple-smooth, help fight age-related damage, and glow. Wondering what to feed your skin? Here are five superfoods you need to try:

  1. Dark Chocolate

As if you needed one more reason to eat chocolate, now you have it. Dark chocolate contains high concentrations of antioxidants. Studies have shown that cocoa keeps the skin thicker and more hydrated, less rough, less sensitive to sunburn, and better blood flow to bring more nutrients to the skin. All just by eating 20 grams of 70% dark chocolate per day.

  1. Green Tea

Sipping a cup of warm green tea does a whole lot more than relax you. Green tea is filled with anti-inflammatory antioxidants called catechins. Similar to dark chocolate, regularly consuming green tea can help protect your skin against sun damage, reduce redness from sun exposure, and improve skin elasticity.

  1. Oatmeal

Oatmeal provides you with a nutrient-dense diet that will brighten up your skin. It will help feed your inflammation-reducing bacterias, minimize spikes in blood sugar that can contribute to skin problems, and strengthen your skin, because of oats' high source of silicon, a mineral that also helps the skin retain elasticity, slowing wrinkles and other signs of aging.

  1. Soy
Soy contains isoflavones that can maintain estrogen levels in the body, which can improve fine wrinkles and skin elasticity. In postmenopausal women, soy may also help improve skin dryness and increase collagen production, keeping your skin smooth and strong. Not only that, soy also protect your skin from damage from harmful UV rays, helping prevent skin cancer.

  1. Sunflower Seeds
In general, nuts and seeds are good sources of nutrients that are important for healthy skin. Sunflower seeds is a good example. They are an excellent source of nutrients, including vitamin E, which is an important antioxidant for the skin. They also contain linoleic acid, a type of fat that may prevent dry and thin skin.

Above are just some examples of foods you can incorporate in your diet. Any food high in nutrients, antioxidants, and vitamins are always good for your skin. Have a balanced meal, drink plenty of water, cut down unhealthy fats and sugar, and you’ll be on your way to a more radiant skin in a couple of months!
Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Bubble up your face! #GOLDENUDE

10:50 AM

Cleansing foams are what evolved from the usual soaps that our ancestors have widely used in the olden days.  The chemical structures of soaps that include glycerine, fatty acids, and fats, were made clear sometime in the 1800’s and this paved the way for the facial cleansers we commonly refer to today.

It was Dove who originally introduced facials creams and promoted the concept of the beauty bar.  Today, lots of beauty industries took it to the next level with cleansing foams packed with a whole lot of nutritious ingredients for the skin.

Cleansing foams are very important in our everyday beauty regimen.  It is almost what you can consider the foundation of your beauty regimen.  You cannot expect the other products to work great if you have impurities and dirt sitting in your skin.  Cleansing foams are known to have maximum benefits if the skin if used in conjunction with sheet mask.

You should wash your face twice a day. You may be diligent about washing your face before you hit the hay, but what about in the a.m.? Even if your skin doesn’t feel dirty, don’t forgo a morning stop at the sink. “You’re getting rid of the natural oils that have built-up overnight, as well as any residue from products you applied before bed,” says Rouleau. This gives you a clean palate so that whatever you use in the morning−most importantly, sunscreen−can penetrate and work effectively, she adds.

Another monday, another charm to show!
